What will kill superman

Being a daughter of the Archangel means her superpowers know no bounds. Moreover, she's learning her trade from the best in both Lucifer and Michael. Elaine can easily overpower Superman, even if she isn't at her best. In fact, she hasn't yet mastered her superpowers. So, it's scary to think that she can still overcome the Man of Steel without them. Lucifer Morningstar, aka Samael, doesn't know the true extent of the powers vested in him. He can create, destroy, rebuild, and alter anything in the DC Multiverse with a minimum of fuss.

His strength is second only to the Presence. If that isn't enough, Lucifer is the Biblical Devil. Thus, he's immortal. In the end, he wouldn't take any pride in defeating Superman without kryptonite. To him, Clark is just another mortal. Since he is a divine creation, there aren't many things he can't do.

He can alter reality, bring back the dead, and destroy entire universes with a blink of an eye. His superpowers are so scary that God keeps The Spectre on a short leash. Facing Superman wouldn't intimidate him in the slightest. In fact, he would enjoy beating the Man of Steel. Captain Atom gained the means to manipulate astounding amounts of energy once he found his way to the Quantum World. This isn't any kind of energy. It has been used by the hero for various purposes, including trying to make his imagination come true.

Captain Atom's strength and durability are literally out of this world, so much so that Superman has to try incredibly hard to hurt the other. Moreover, Captain Atom's other abilities mean he can take down Superman without kryptonite. Still, the battle would be harsh. Jonathan Osterman is one of Earth's few superheroes who has become a fearsome force of nature.

Thanks to a nuclear experiment gone wrong, he lost his physical presence. What remained was his overpowering energy. No fans wish him ill, but it's time to set the record straight: Superman has more than a few chinks in his armor. Updated on July 2nd, by Amanda Bruce: As Superman features in a new television series, and has a new movie on the way, fans continue to see him as both indestructible and incredibly vulnerable. For all his Kryptonian powers, Clark Kent is still very human.

While there are quite a few villains who could match his strength, there are also just as many human vulnerabilities that could bring the hero to his news, and it's always a good time to explore them. The Death of Superman was a watershed moment in comics history. Sure, Marvel Comics' original Captain Marvel had been killed off by fairly natural means, having died of cancer in a hospital bed surrounded by his comrades in arms. The Man of Steel had his share of setbacks over the years, having taken a few hits here and there, but he was the reigning champ of the superhero world.

Superman losing a fight is one thing, but getting flat-out killed by Doomsday is another. When Lois Lane cradled his broken body in the final pages of that fateful DC Comics issue, however, the impossible had finally become real.

This plot proved so devastating to readers that Zack Snyder adapted it for the big screen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. In many respects, Superman is like a living, breathing battery. If some time on the beach gives the average person vitamin D, an hour in the sun gives Superman illimitable power. For Superman, time beneath a red sun is the only thing worse than the deprivation of yellow rays.

For a Kryptonian such as Kal-El, red suns have the capacity to stunt his superhero potential, zapping his yellow sun reserves and weakening him by a substantial degree. Though red sunlight was the native source of energy surrounding the planet Krypton, it has a deleterious effect on Superman, who has spent his entire life absorbing yellow rays on Earth following the destruction of his home planet.

Should an enemy seek to destroy the Man of Steel, the battle would best begin beneath the depleting power of a red sun. The Dark Knight knows full well that a little mind control goes a long way for Superman. After all, the Man of Steel is a flying, bullet-proof, one-man army.

Superman has a low-tolerance mental firewall, and more than a few villains have hacked his Kryptonian database and turned him into a drone. Though it has yet to result in the Man of Steel committing seppuku, mind control has put Superman in some truly precarious positions. From the comics to the animated movies to the big screen, Batman has maintained a distinguished career of beating up his frenemy, Superman. In this alternate reality, the Dark Knight wore a Kryptonian ring and bludgeoned Kal-El to death with it.

Superman has most definitely returned the favor, of course, but in assessing their decades-long dance betwixt friendship and rivalry, Batman has a better track record. He also has the raw goods that have contributed to his success on the battlefield: the wealth, the wits, and the tactical precision that has made fools of the best fighters in Gotham and beyond.

That seems to be DC flat-out admitting that they're about to kill the Kal-El Superman, harkening back to Jon Kent's future knowledge of his father's death - and even directly invoking Doomsday, the villain who killed Kal-El way back in the mega-popular event ' The Death and Return of Superman. And on that note, DC seems to be saying-without-saying that they'll be acknowledging that story's 30th anniversary in , even stating in the Action Comics preview that 'The Warworld Saga' will be "one of the biggest Superman stories in decades.

Maybe less directly important to note, but still somewhat interesting, is that the last time Superman led a coalition of heroes in taking on the entirety of Warworld was in the story ' Panic in the Sky ' - the event that preceded 'Death and Return' in the first half of , meaning that next year is also the anniversary of this lesser-known story.

And in that story, another Superman adjacent hero, the alien warrior Draaga who wore Superman's symbol in tribute to his ally Supergirl, died to save the Girl of Steel's life. So how will Superman die? Since we don't have access to the LoSH's 30th Century history books, we can't say for sure.

And though our powers may be more in line with Batman's vaunted deductive reasoning than any kind of actual future sight, we think our detective work speaks for itself on this one. It might just be time for us old-timers to dust off our black Superman armbands from when he died 30 years ago - and maybe all the speculation copies of Kal-El's original death sitting in dusty basements might just rise in value a few pennies each. As DC gears up for the next epic event focusing on the Man of Steel, it's a perfect time to look back at the best Superman comic stories of all time.
