Jasper tramway how long
Tour guide said the snow on top would likely stay for the rest of the season. Going up was a little painful and challenging to breath especially for me whose not really used to being up so high.
Skytram there was also a cool bonus. Cannot give 5 stars because of smoke that hid everything. Don't pay to climb on a smoky day. No poles needed. The smoke hampered the views. Still a good hike. It is a steeper hike but all ages where doing it. Use Navigator in the AllTrails app and join the other outdoor explorers who have completed this trail.
Whistlers Summit Trail with Jasper Tramway moderate Length 3. This trail route follows the most direct path going up - but users should still be prepared with the proper equipment, since it is steep. Hiking poles are a big plus, especially during the shoulder seasons when ice and snow tend to melt and refreeze. Folks recommend remaining on this route as best possible and to not go beyond the summit since there are numerous unsafe areas, but with the proper backcountry alpine experience, folks can explore past where Indian Ridge trail picks up.
Overall, this hike offers anyone looking for some hard mountaineering with easy ridges a great chance to explore the alpine tundra without having to slog all the way up a mountain. Users recommend going past the summit monument, which is a great bronze compass with information to folks to local peak names and some distances, and this small trail past the object will go out to the furthest point.
The best time to enjoy the area is during mid June and July, when there are wildflowers in the rocks and along the alpine meadows, as they will disappear by early August depending on the weather. Along the summit, the weather will be changeable, and folks should expect some moderate temperature swings. Users will have periods of sun followed by showers and cloud unless here in high summer when it tends to be drier. Often, on the way back to the tram the clouds will roll up the mountain and folks can have zero visibility, so downloading the offline maps can help since it is very possible to be entranced in thick cloud that prevent folks from seeing the tram station until they are right on top of it.
Because of the varying weather, most would say that it would be risky to leave the trail and possibly damaging to plants in case sudden clouds rolled in and obscured landmarks. The summit is at just over metres. Reviews Sort by:. Guillaume Morin. October 11, Anna Vafadar. October 10, Serena Agata. October 7, Michael Zhang. October 2, Ann Wynd. Hiking Great!

Lukasz Wieczorek. September 7, Pretty steep on the way up, but you will be rewarded with amazing views! The Treeline Restaurant located at the upper station of the tramway provides breakfast, lunch and light snacks. At the top of the tramway there is a boardwalk surrounding the station or can you venture off into the other areas around it to explore.
Whistlers is named after the Hoary Marmots that scurry about the mountain and are known for making a whistling call. The views from the top of the tramway area are fantastic, but for a bit more effort you can get wowed even more. It does get a bit steep. There are some rocky sections, but for the most part it has good footing. The average fit person can accomplish it.
Take your time and stop for rests often. You may find the thinner air and elevation makes it a lot more effort. It can be rather cold up there even in the summer. Bring water no matter what time of year. In spring and in the fall there can be some snow. You should check with the tram staff to see how much there is and if the trail is accessible without any special gear.
You can see the top of the tram station getting further and further away in the distance as you hike to the summit of Whistlers Mountain.
